Here is a step by step guide to beautifully braid cornrows to someone else or on your head as well.

1. Time to Braid

  • Plan your style: Having a good and clear picture of what type of cornrows you want is the most important thing. Draw or have a photo of it to plan your style in a right way. You may choose to braid straight cornrows or a curvy one.
  • Damp your hair: Damp hair is more hassle-free to braid cornrows than dry and frizzy hair. Wet your hair mildly with water and comb it tangle-free.
  • Make Partition: Part your hair into individual large sections of 3-4. A rat tail comb can be handy here to part hair cleanly. Start with an extreme part and keep others aside by tying them into individual ponytails.

2. Start to Cornrow Your Hair

  • Separate the first section into 3 subsections: Divide the first large section into 3 small sections. Start with the first subsection by parting it into 3 strands.
  • Braid: Start with a normal braid. Put the right strand above the middle strand and then pass the left strand between the right and the middle.
  • Cornrow: This is a crucial step of cornrow. Add hair from the same section you are braiding as you continue to weave. Add the new strand of hair into one of the three strands (especially the strand close to the side of your adding). This keeps the braid attached to the scalp.
  • Secure: Continue braiding in the same style till the nape of the neck. Then weave the three strands normally along the rest of the length of your hair. Secure it by tying a rubber band.
  • Come to the next row: Take the next subsection the same size of the first section. Moisture this part and start by making a normal bread. As you continue to braid, take small sections of from the scalp and add it with one of the three strands. Secure it with a rubber band as you complete braiding.
  • Complete the cornrows: Braid the rest of the sections of your hair carefully into cornrows of even thickness. Secure each cornrow by a rubber band.
